Our Church History
The Church at Hidden Lake is the Cathedral Seat of the Christian Orthodox Church of America (C.O.C.O.A.). We have 1st Century intention, with 21st Century expression. 1st Century Christian churches were not named after good ideas, rather they were named after landmarks or towns i.e. The Church at Corinth, the Church at Ephesus. Likewise, we have taken the simple name associated with beautiful Hidden Lake. Our roots stretch back 2000 years to the Early Church. More recent roots lead back to 1989 when our founder and ++Archbishop P. Gregory Schell, and his wife Sunny, made their way to minister in crack houses on 6th Avenue near downtown Avenue. Evolution brought the ministry into a new era in the year 2000 when orthodoxy was introduced to our community by ++Archbishop Veron Ashe. We realized that to meet our Heavenly Father, we must first be introduced to our Church Fathers. A blowing and going evangelical church collided with the strength and structure of orthodoxy.
